THE WORK OF LINDA MARSHALL- SCROLL DOWN FOR BIO

Linda Marshall has been designing and painting glass since 1977. Most of her
work has been commissions for churches, businesses and homes. She continues
to expand the art of painted glass in new directions with every project.

The art of painting on glass is complex in that each application of paint (a
mixture of ground glass with an oxide added for color) must be fired in a
kiln (1050 plus degrees). The artist mixes paint with a medium (i.e. clove
or lavender oil) then removes the areas which are not to be fired in with a
variety of brushes and tools.

To create a three dimensional look as in figures, multiple colors and
firings must be administered. When the glass is fired the paint is "fused"
to it making it a member of the glass. The paint will never wear off.

Linda's passion for the human face and figure are evident in her work. She
loves the challenge of taking clear window glass and transforming it into
"lifelike" figures. One can see a spiritual quality to her subjects that
remind us of our own deeper, less revealed joys and yearnings.

Linda began selling her art work nationally in 1975. Her educational
background includes art studies from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi,
Texas, University of Southern Maine in Portland, Maine, Parsons College in
New York, and Cortona, Italy. She has been featured in numerous newspaper
articles and two television art documentaries. Her local community art
projects have included the J. Doe II Project, and the current BenchMark
Project. She has worked extensively in developing portraitures in the
ancient Indonesian art form of batik, sculpts, draws, and paints with oil
and watercolor.

Anyone is welcome to visit her studio, on the 2nd floor of the Hot Shops
Artist's Workshop and Gallery at 13th and Nicholas in Omaha NE. When
visiting her you will be able to see first hand the art of painting on glass
and the fabrication of stained glass windows. Call first to make an
appointment as she may be out installing her work.

Linda can be reached at 402-850-4040. Her e-mail address is
ljmarshall05@hotmail.com.
